Biography

Advanced Seminary (Hawza) Studies & MA Sociology (Allameh Tabatabel) While turning in his studies from Mechanical Engineering at Queen Mary College to sociology at LSE he developed a deep interest in religious studies. This interest eventually led him to the seminary in Qum, the most renowned centre for Shiite studies where he was absorbed to different branches of Islamic studies. After progressing to the Advanced Seminary level, he was invited to teach at the University of Cambridge, department of Oriental Studies, where he taught for three years before moving to the Islamic College. Apart from his academic pursuit, he is interested in script writing. He is well known for writing the script for the acclaimed movie and television series St Mary.

Biography

Amir De Martino is an Italian-born holding an MA in Islamic Studies from The Islamic College and a combined BA degree in Persian Language and Studies of Religion from SOAS –University of London. His Master dissertation was on: The development of ʿĀshūrāʾ rituals in Shiʿa Islam.

Amir De Martino was trained in Islamic classical studies at the Hawzah Imam Hussein – London (prior to its merger with the Islamic College for Advanced Studies). In 2010 he obtained a PGCE in Social Research Methods from the department of Education at Roehampton University as part of his preparation for doctoral studies. He has taught Islamic History modules and others various modules at the Islamic College for over a decade. At present, he is the programme leader of the BA (Honours) in Islamic Studies programme offered in partnership with Middlesex University. Amir De Martino is also a member of the Westminster’s SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education).

Biography

Graduated from the Hawza Ilmiyya of London, then pursued advanced classical studies at the Hawza Ilmiyya of Damascus and Qum.  He holds BA and MA degree in Islamic Studies, and certifications from the Language Institute of Damascus University. He taught Tafsir classes in Rome for over three years and supervised academic dissertations on various branches of Islamic Sciences. He participated in many International Conferences on Contemporary Issues in Muslim Societies and received awards from different Universities and Institutions. He is also the President of Imam Mahdi Islamic Association since 2005 and have provided pastoral training since 2012.

Biography

Amina Inloes received an MA in Islamic Studies from the Islamic College in 2009. She also holds an MA in Teaching and is a qualified teacher who has taught physics and mathematics. She is the managing editor for the Journal of Shi’a Islamic Studies. She has also studied in the hawzah of al-Najaf al-Ashraf and briefly in Qom.

Biography

Shaykh Mohammed Ali Ismail, from Peterborough, graduated in Law. He then went to Qum, Iran where he studied in the Hawza for ten years, specialising in Qur’an and Hadith Studies. While in Qum, he regularly taught on short courses and was Manager of the World Federation Islamic Education Board’s Qum Office for three years. Having graduated from the Hawza in 2007, he went on to qualify as a professional teacher by completing the Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Portsmouth.

He then moved to Damascus, Syria where for two years he taught and trained future Ministers of Religion at the Islamic Institute for Post Graduate Studies. Shaykh Mohammed Ali resettled in the UK in 2010 and is currently Director of Research and Publications and a lecturer and editor at The Islamic College. He also conducts Personal Development Courses in Islamic fields of study and lectures in Islamic centres.

Biography

Dr M Mesbahi holds a PhD in Medical Tomography, and a great number of his academic papers and publications under SPIE, NI&M, JNM and IEEE are based on that theme. Nevertheless Islamic Education in the West and its complexities has also featured high in his list of priorities and has recently been central to his work. Based on his interest of teaching of Islam in the mainstream education as well as Islamic schools and colleges, Dr Mesbahi has taken part in the development of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas under the Middlesex Collaborative scheme. He has also authored the module text book for “Minorities, Rights and the Law”, SCATE formatted and aimed at on-line education.  Dr Mesbahi’s next conference papers will be “Movement and Migration in the Middle East: People and Ideas in Flux” and his most recent published work is titled “Global Citizenship: The challenges of Muslim Migration to Europe”. On a different note Dr Mesbahi is also known in the Muslim community for his expertise on Traditional astronomical sciences of “Nujum and Hay’at”. He has published many works in the field of Islamic astronomy and has a dedicated web site on Taghweem.

Biography

Educated in the Najaf Seminary of the late Ayatollah Al-Hakim and Ayatollah Al Khoei, Professor Milani is a graduate of the Universities of Beirut, Baghdad and Oxford. With over thirty years of experience in teaching Islamic Studies, particularly Islamic Law and Jurisprudence and Islamic Theology, he was appointed as a Professor by the University of Amman. Professor Milani is the Dean of the International University of Islamic Studies and the head of Islamic Law and Jurisprudence at the Islamic College.

Biography

Educated at the Sharif University of Technology (Electronic Engineering), University of Tehran (Philosophy) and the University of London (Philosophy of Science), Ali Paya is a Professor of Philosophy at the Islamic College (London), Professor of Philosophy of Science at the Sciences and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University (Tehran), and Senior Advisor at the Institute for Work Based Learning, Middlesex University (London). Among publications, Analytic Philosophy: Problems and Prospects received the award for the best philosophical book of 2003 in Iran. His most recent publications include, Iraq, Democracy, and the Future of the Muslim World (co-editor 2012), The Misty Land of Ideas and the Light of Dialogue: An Anthology of Comparative Philosophy: Western & Islamic (editor, 2014), A Critical Pathology of the Social Sciences and Humanities in Iran (co-author, 2015), Analytic Philosophy from a Critical Rationalist Point of View (2016), Habermas and Iranian Intellectuals (co-author 2016), and Islam, Modernity and a New Millennium: Themes from a Critical Rationalist Reading of Islam (2017).

Biography

Mohammad Zakaria is a graduate of the Hawza ‘Ilmiyyah where he studied traditional Islamic sciences. He holds two further postgraduate degrees, the first from Jami’at al-Muntazar and the second from the Islamic College. Currently he is in the final year of a Doctorate of Education programme of study at Brunel University.
