Profile

Shaykh Hakim obtained his Cand.mag in Islamic Studies from the University of Oslo. He has completed Islamic studies to the level of ijtihad at the seminary in Qum. He heads the Islamic (Research) Foundation, and he is a member of the Institute of Islamic Studies' Academic Board.  He taught advanced Jurisprudence at Shahid Sadr School and he was a guest lecturer teaching 'History of Islam' at the University of Oslo. He is in charge of the Religious Enquiry Section at the Islamic Centre of England.  Ali H. Al-Hakim is the author of 'The Awaited Saviour: Questions and Answers', and the editor of the book: 'Islam and Feminism: Theory, Modelling and Applications', a book published by the Institute of Islamic Studies - London.

Some of his recent published work includes:

  • Feminism, Human Rights and the Muslim Woman’s Identity (2005). Presented at the Third International Conference on ‘Human Rights and Identity’ arranged by Mofid University. Qum.

  • The Phases, Development and Characteristics of the Shi’ah Advanced Seminaries (2005). A paper presented in the International Conference of ‘Knowledge 2005’ arranged by the University of Bergen in Bergen city, Norway.

  • Shar’iah Law and Fiqh Maqasid: An Ijtihadi Approach in the Twenty-First Century (2006). Presented in the International Conference arranged by IIUC on the Maqasid al-Shari’ah in Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia.

  • Imam Al-Mahdi (as) and Opponents: The Dialectic of Contradiction and Complementarity (2007). A paper submitted to the Third International Conference on the Mahdiology arranged by the Bright Future Foundation in Tehran, Iran.

  • Human Souls amongst Spirits and Ghosts: A Holistic Approach (2008). A paper presented in the International Post-Conference for Mental Health and aseries of workshops about Ethnic Minorities designed to improve (clinical cultural competence), jointly organized by the University of Manchester and the University of Toronto in Preston, England on 9 July 2008.

Some of his recent supervision includes:

  •  (Advisory and part of interview panel). ’Ethical Medicine’ post-doc. research in artificial human reproduction technology. Rresearched from a comparative angle with regards to Jurisprudential. The University of London 2007.

  •  (Advisor) BA dissertation about hijab and its philosophy in the Islamic teachings, London 2008.

  •  (Supervisor) Islamic studies, MA thesis on the purity of human beings 2008.
