Profile
Prof. Husain obtained his BA from Basra University, his MPhil in Modern History from Baghdad University in 1976, and his PhD in Islamic studies (medieval Islamic History) from the University of Edinburgh in 1979, where he served as a post-doctoral fellow until 1990. From 1990 to 2000, he divided his career between teaching, research and publishing while serving as the director of Proud Rose Publishing, the Mashriq Institute, and the Musheer consultancy. He continued supervising postgraduate studies at the International Islamic University and the American University in London. In 2000 he joined the Islamic College as the Director of the Distance Learning and as a member of the academic staff. He is one of the governors of Fanon Academy in south London and Al-Iraq University in Basra. He has been a member of Teaching Religion in a Multicultural European Society since 2006. In 2004, he received an award for postgraduate supervision from the International Islamic University.
