MA Islamic Law is a programme providing an in-depth coverage of issues but also designed to reflect the diverse needs of students looking for postgraduate qualifications in the Islamic domain, allowing choice from a wide range of modules designed to broaden an awareness and knowledge of significant areas, and to deepen understanding of particular topics, methods, and concepts.

MA / PG Dip in Islamic Law at the Islamic College offers students the opportunity to gain a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of Islamic Law, fiqh and usu l al-fiqh (Islamic law and jurisprudence) while engaging students with some of the central issues in the comparative context.

With growing numbers of Muslims in the UK and their increasing interaction with the wider society, there is a reasonable demand for graduates of with an understanding of Islamic Law and this programme is structured to benefit those who may seek employment in the field of law and require an expertise in Islam as well as those who aspire to continue their studies to a PhD degree and to become future lecturers in the field.

The programme aims to develop the student's knowledge and understanding of Islam. Specifically, it aims to develop:

• An in-depth knowledge of specialist areas of the Islamic Law
• The use of appropriate methodological approach to the study of Islam
• Critical thinking, analytical and practical skills in constructing well-reasoned arguments
• Constructive intellectual class interaction on issues related to Islam and Muslim societies and in particular in relation to today's Islam
• Proficiency in conducting research work and independent study
• Capability to pursue further postgraduate studies
• Specialised knowledge and skills that could be used in different career pursuits
