Islamic Studies (Validated by Middlesex University)
Awarding Institution: Middlesex University |
Teaching Institution: The Islamic College |
The fast growth of Islamic studies a discipline in the academic world is due to the emerging global importance of Islam as a political and cultural force and as one of the major religions in the world. The growing number of Muslims in Western societies in recent decades has created the need for better understanding of Muslims and their beliefs in order to create a well-balanced environment conducive to racial and ethnic harmony.
Our aim has always been providing an environment within which the pursuit of scholarly achievement can be carried out in a manner, which harmonises with the subjects of study. We see ourselves as a caring, friendly but serious and well-disciplined institution. We encourage warm and close relations between our well-qualified staff and students. The College strives for excellence, fulfilment of potential and achievement of our students.
This programme provides a wide-range of study modules including Qur’ān and Sunna, Islamic law, Islamic philosophy, theology and mysticism, history of Islam as well as a strong learning focus on the Arabic language. Students are not required to have any particular affiliation. Indeed, The Islamic College welcomes all applicants from different backgrounds, cultures, faiths, religions, sects, and gender.
The course is entirely based on optional modules to be chosen by the students but modules can only be taken if there are five students enrolled for that particular module. Successful completion of a module in each semester earns students 20 or 10 credits, depending on the scope of the module and the level of the module is indicated by the module code. Each module is allocated a fixed credit weighting and a level which gives an indication of the workload associated with that module. For a year-long module, credit is gained only after the completion of the second part of the module in the second semester. A total of 240 credits would be needed for the Diploma of Higher Education.
